大正時代のアグリゲーター

インターネットで配信されるニュースやブログ記事をまとめて読むためのソフトはアグリゲーター（aggregator）という。私はそのために Google Reader を使うが、他にいろいろある。

似たような機能はすでに大正時代の『英語青年』にあった。毎号に、 The Japan Chronicle、 The Osaka Mainichi、 The Japan Advertiser、The Japan Times など、国内の英字新聞からの記事が転載されていた。例えば、1925年12月15日の『英語青年』には、次のような国内ニュース（「HOME NEWS」）があった。

NEW CRATER IN A FOREST.

An eruption suddenly took place at three places in a forest in Kagi-takara-mura, which is [in] the range of Mount Yowogadake, on the 4th instant at 5 a.m., says a Gifu dispatch. Columns of dense smoke were being emitted vehemently from the new craters when the message was dispatched. -- J. C.

FAKE CONCERNS ORDERED TO CLOSE UP SHOP.

Fifty-four financial firms in Tokyo were ordered by the Metropolitan Police Board yesterday morning to close their doors. The order was the outcome of revelations during the investigation of financial institutions of questionable character in Tokyo, following the discovery of a scandal in the Shokin Trading Company. --The Japan Advertiser

POLICE FIND 137 DOORS UNLOCKED IN OSAKA CITY.

One hundred and thirty-seven doors were found unlocked in the City of Osaka, when the police conducted a vigilant beat throughout the city in the small hours on November 7 before 5 o'clock.
During these hours, 17,167 persons were accosted, 1,567 charged, 172 taken to police stations for protection, 177 seized for misdemeanour, and 27 put into custody on suspicion.
Police visits were made to 120 inns and cafes. --O. M.

火山の噴火は時代の世相を物語るわけではないが、一日にインチキ金融業54社の閉店が命じられ、一夜に17,167人が警察に職質されるなど、現在ではちょっと考えにくい。大正時代は面白かったな。
