本文では life は「生き物」の意味で使われている。

「生活」の意味では、かつて For beautiful human life という日本の化粧品会社の宣伝文があり、物議を醸した。「人間の生活」という意味で使ったと思われるが、確かにヘン。life だけで「人間の生活」が含意される（日本語でも生活といえば人間のに決まっている）。わざわざ human と形容詞を入れると、人間以外の何ものか（例えば動物）が比較の対象として含意されるのでよくないのだ。
